Update - Full Day Kindergarten Planning, Teaching and Assessment Workshop

The sign up sheet for the Full Day Kindergarten Workshop will now be made available in the Education Office on Thursday November 3, 2016.  Please come to the office on that day to sign up if you wish to attend.

Want To Learn More About Full Day Kindergarten Planning, Teaching and Assessment?
Sign up for our planned workshop.
Planning, teaching and assessment in a Full Day Kindergarten inquiry-based learning environment will be addressed. 
Teacher candidates will have an opportunity to work with a centre/inquiry-based planning template (modification of the Lesson Plan template).

Candidates will also learn about resources that can assist them with their practicum-related responsibilities. While the focus will be on the Kindergarten learning environment, this workshop will be of interest to candidates who want to learn more about facilitating an inquiry-based programming in general.


There will be a follow-up workshop on inquiry-based learning throughout the grades in January 2017. Date to be determined by the end of October.
Recommended Participants For This Workshop:
Teacher Candidates in FDK placements and those wanting to learn more about inquiry-based planning, teaching and assessment
Date: Wednesday, November 9 from 5-7 p.m.

Protocol Education Campus Visit - Wednesday November 2, 2016

Protocol Education will have an information booth set up in the HP hallway on Wednesday November 2, 2016 from 11:00am - 2:00pm.

Important Reminder - For Your Last Class of EDUC 4490, 4350 or 4370

Attention All B.Ed Program Students,

We would ask that for your last class of the Classroom Management, Planning & Evaluation course, please come to it having read the Practicum Guide, including the Formative and Summative assessments and note any questions or concerns you may have. They will be addressed with your course instructor/faculty advisors or Catherine.

Please bring either a hard copy or electronic copy of your program's Practicum Guide with you to that class.

Students in the 1st year of the 2 Year Program, are also asked to bring your MAP Journal to this same class.

Teaching in Indigenous Communities

Teaching in Indigenous CommunitiesThursday, October 27th, 2016

Please join us for an informal information session on teaching in Indigenous communities. What are some questions you need to ask about your work, your contract and context? What are some things you need to consider? How might you begin to look for this work?

We will be learning from three community members:
Nancy Stevens; Haudenosaunee and European, LU Department of Social Work & many years of experience in many communities from coast to coast to coast
Linda Grant; Math teacher and librarian here at LU, worked for 20 years in Haida Gwaii, 
Marsha Shilling; Chippewas of Rama First Nation and teacher at Mnjikaning Kendaaswin Elementary School.

Legacy and Year 2 Students - Reminder - Professional Development Day - Saturday October 22, 2016

Good Afternoon All,

This is reminder of the mandatory Professional Development Day, that will held at Heritage Place on Saturday October 22, 2016.  The workshops will run from 9:00am - 3:30pm, and the registration desk will be open from 8:30am - 8:55am. 

The day's activities will include sessions on Promoting a Successful Practicum with Catherine Hannon and an Associate Teacher, Digital Literacy, Deeper Learning, Wellness and Google Apps. 

Students are kindly asked to bring their own lunch.

Reminder - Legacy 1 Year & Year 2 Students - Professional Development Day on Wednesday October 5, 2016

This is a reminder of the mandatory P.D. Day on Wednesday October 5, 2016.

Location:  Orillia Opera House

Agenda:

  • 8:30am-9:00am:  Registration
  • 9:00am-4:00pm: Presentations - EQAO, QECO, ETFO, Ontario College of Teachers and Educators' Panel Discussion
  • Lunch: 40 minutes (Consider brown bagging a lunch to save time - there is a space to eat at the Orillia Opera House if you choose to stay there)
  • 4:00pm-5:00pm : OECTA Presentation for teacher candidates who are intending on/ interested in teaching in a Catholic school board now or in the future- other teacher candidates will be free to leave at 4:00pm.
What To Bring:  Notebook, Pen, Tablet or Laptop- to record information.
