Interested In Teaching Overseas? Exciting Teaching Opportunities In England Are Available

**Forwarding on behalf of the The Post**

Dear Teacher Candidate,

The Post is Lakehead University's Undergraduate Research Journal. The Post is an interdisciplinary, peer-reviewed, open access journal. The goals of The Post include: offering students the opportunity to become familiar with the peer-review process so that they might better understand it in their academic futures, and dismantling the barriers between disciplines so that we might all be able to benefit from the information that is being proliferated in different departments, even if it is not our specific area of study.

The Post is very close to publishing its second issue and you may read the first issue at post.lakeheadu.ca. The deadline for submissions for the third issue of The Post (to be published March 2017) is Friday, November 25. The Post is an interdisciplinary journal and therefore submissions from all undergraduate programs are encouraged.  Submissions should be no longer than 25 pages (although exceptions can be made), should be in APA format, and may be on any topic as long as it is a research based paper.  In class assignments as well as extra-curricular research are accepted.

Students can also get involved with The Post as reviewers and we are currently seeking a Copy Editor, a Journal Manager, and soon, a new Editor-In-Chief. Interested students may email thepost@lakeheadu.ca for more information.

QECO and OCT Application Process Clarification - For Students Hoping to Graduate in June 2017

Good Afternoon Everyone,

A few of you have asked for clarification about the application process and timeline for both the Ontario College of Teachers (OCT) and the Qualification Evaluation Council of Ontario (QECO).

You may choose to file this instructional email away, until after Fall placement - for review during the Christmas Break.

STEP #1
Create your online OCT application profile
  • Obtain your Pending OCT #
  • Arrange to submit any outstanding OCT application checklist items to make your application complete
  1. Your identity documents - your responsibility
  2. Your proof of practice teaching (placement assessments)  - your responsibility
  3. A police record check  - your responsibility
  4. Your final transcripts (1 for your undergraduate degree and 1 for your B.Ed degree)  - your responsibility
  5. Report from Faculty - this is submitted on your behalf by a Lakehead designate, at the end of May/early June and December each year
Once these things are taken care of, you can move on to STEP# 2.

STEP #2
Submit your application for QECO evaluation
NOTE:
It is each student's responsibility to understand any specific deadline imposed by either organization.

Should you have any questions about the application process or timeline for application completion for either of these organizations, we would encourage you to contact them directly.

The Importance of an APPLY TO EDUCATION Profile - Task Over The Christmas Holiday Break

Good Afternoon B.Ed Students Hoping To Graduate in June 2017,

Have you heard of www.applytoeducation.com?

This website and the profile you create on it, will serve to be an indispensable tool, in your search for Teaching Opportunities in Canada.
215 Canadian School Boards & 299 Private Employers use "apply to education" to post their jobs and receive applications online.

Since 1998, ApplyToEducation has helped applicants apply to over 5,500 schools in 49 countries.

ApplyToEducation software simplifies how you manage your employment applications throughout your career in Education.

One application portfolio in your personal cloud, gives you the ability to easily apply to:
  • Employers
  • Job postings
  • Daily assignments
  • Long-term openings (i.e. maternity leaves)
  • Permanent openings
  • Share your portfolio electronically with employers you’re interested in applying to
Apply to education is the best way to send your application portfolio to employers for the following reasons:

YOU SAVE TIME APPLYING:
  • You fill out ONE application and use it for every job you apply to
  • You can customize your cover letter for each job you apply to
  • You can update your application portfolio as often as you like
  • Employers always see the latest version of your application portfolio
YOU SAVE MONEY SENDING YOUR APPLICATION:
  • Save time and the costs associated with photocopying, mailing, faxing and updating your application throughout your career
  • Apply to Education is less expensive than paying for multiple transcripts, photocopies, mailing or faxing an application portfolio
  • Use Apply to Education to e-courier your application portfolio to unlimited jobs with one school board and private employers
YOU RECEIVE EMAILS ALERTING YOU TO JOBS YOU ARE INTERESTED IN:
  • Search education jobs and set up a 'Job Alert' so you are emailed when jobs you are interested in are posted
  • School Board job postings can be viewed at any time free of charge
  • Apply to Education not only saves you time — it saves you money
We encourage all of you to review the benefits of the creation of a profile on this website, over the Holiday Break.

Simcoe County DSB - P.A Day November 18th, 2016

Good Morning Students,

Teacher candidates placed in Simcoe County District School Board schools have a P.A. day on Friday, November 18, 2016

The focus of this day are parent-student-teacher conferences. Teachers work one evening (usually Thursday, Nov. 17) and the Friday Nov. 18 morning, and then they get Friday afternoon off. Teacher candidates who follow this schedule can also get Friday afternoon, Nov. 18 off.

Candidates who do not work the evening with their Associate Teacher will be expected to attend their placement at their school on the Friday, Nov. 18, to work on planning. They are not permitted to work at home on this day.

The schools will be open for the full day on Friday, Nov. 18

Candidates with placements in other school boards will follow their Associate Teacher's schedules during a P.A.day. Questions regarding P.A day protocol can be directed to Catherine Hannon or your Faculty Advisor.

Practicum-Related Support from Catherine Hannon - Week of November 7th, 2016
