Update to YEAR 1 PD Event Schedule on Education's Blog

There has been an update to the YEAR 1 PD Event Schedule.

Please continue to visit this Faculty's Blog to obtain the latest information (changes or additions) to each term's planned PD.

Good Afternoon all 1 Year B.Ed and YEAR 2 (of 2 Year B.Ed) Students,

Professional Development workshops are a required part of our B.Ed program delivery each year.
As such, each 1 Year B.Ed and YEAR 2 (of 2 Year B.Ed) student is required to attend these planned events.

The Faculty of Education has put together a a snapshot of what to tentatively expect, for the identified Professional Development workshop dates, for both Fall 2018 and Winter 2019. (see attached)

YEAR 1 of 2 Year B.Ed Planned Professional Development Workshops & Events - Wednesdays - Fall term 2018

Good Afternoon all Year 1 (of 2 Year B.Ed Program Students),

As you know, academic courses are not scheduled on Wednesdays in Year 1 of our 2 Year B.Ed program. There is however, an obligation to either be on campus, or in a host school (on placement) on Wednesdays each term.

There are 9 Wednesdays in each term (Fall 2018 and Winter 2019)
  • The first 4 Wednesdays will be spent on campus, attending planned PD events/workshops
  • The last 5 Wednesdays will be spent in your host school, completing the MAP days requirement of your placement

Student Parking (Downtown Campus - Heritage Place)

Good Afternoon Professional Program B.Ed Students,

Parking Options at Downtown Campus:The Faculty of Education Administration has received a number of inquiries about parking options at our downtown campus location.


There is absolutely no student parking at the Heritage Place building.
(This includes both tenant or visitor parking).


The entire Heritage Place Building lot is monitored on a daily basis and cars parked illegally will be tagged by Security and towed at the owner’s expense.


Given this announcement, all students are encouraged to check the Transportation page on the Lakehead University website for parking options, within the City of Orillia.

Clarification About Wednesdays For Year 1 Students - Fall & Winter terms 2018-2019

Good Day Year 1 (of 2 Year B.Ed) Students,

The Faculty of Education has received a number of inquiries about what the expectation is for Year 1 students on Wednesdays when academic courses are not scheduled.

There are 9 Wednesdays each term (Fall and Winter)
  • The first 4 Wednesdays (Sept 4, 11, 18 and 25th) will be spent on-campus attending mandatory Professional Development events
  • The last 5 Wednesdays (Oct 3, 10, 17, 24 and 31st) will be spent in your host school, completing the required Mentorship & Active Participation (MAP) days

The final agenda for the 4 Professional Development events for the Fall term will be shared with all of you in the very near future. While you wait for the final agenda and wish to plan ahead, it is best to assume that the time commitment could be from 8:30 - 4:30pm on those dates.

Reminder - How To Register For Academic Skills & Accessibility Accommodations At Lakehead University

Good Day B.Ed Professional Program Students,


Thinking Ahead To The Math Competency Exam & Registering For Accommodations:

As you know, it will take place on Saturday, September 8th, 2018 from 10am -12 noon.

If you require accommodations for this exam or wish to be registered for an approved accommodation of any kind, you MUST register with Student Accessibility Services (SAS).  Please contact Danielle Poeta for an appointment (oraccess@lakeheadu.ca ) as soon as you have registered for classes.

Any Concurrent or Consecutive student entering our B.Ed Professional Programs in September 2018, who wishes to utilize Lakehead University's Student Accessibility Services (SAS) must have appropriate documentation and/or forms available, register and meet with the Accessibility Advisor (Danielle Poeta) as soon as you are permitted to register for classes. 

PLEASE NOTE:
Students returning to Lakehead University to continue their studies in our B.Ed Professional Programs are required to re-register with SAS each academic term, should they wish to continue to utilize their services.

What is the Student Accessibility Services?
Student Accessibility Services (SAS) coordinates services and facilitates the provision of reasonable academic accommodations for students with documented disabilities/medical conditions.

Signing Up For Math Brush Up Sessions, Purchasing Lockers & Submitting PRC/VSS Documents - On The 1st Day of Classes

The Faculty of Education has scheduled "Brush UpMath Sessions for any interested students,  to take place before the compulsory Math Competency Exam on Saturday September 8th, 2018 at 10:00 am.

PLEASE REMEMBER: 

  • These sessions are ONLY for students who have been working on their math content knowledge. These sessions are designed to give those students who have been working on their math knowledge a chance to practice problem-solving prior to the exam.
  • These are not workshops designed to TEACH you math.
  • It is not possible for us to teach all the relevant math you will need for the exam in one or two sessions (and you will find these sessions more confusing than helpful).
  • However, if you have been working on your math, or feel confident about your math understanding, these sessions will provide you with an opportunity for some extra practice.

WHEN ARE THE "BRUSH UPSESSIONS?

DATE: TUES September 4th, 2018
7:15pm - 9:15pm (OH007 and OH008)


DATE: THURS September 6th, 2018
7:15pm - 9:15pm  (OH007 and OH008)

HOW DO I SIGN UP?
We would ask that any B.Ed student wishing to attend either session, to plan to visit the tables set up in the Heritage Place hallway on the first day of classes, to sign up.

The table will be set up between:
9am - 11am and again, 2pm - 3pm on Tuesday Sept 4th, 2018.

Other items that can be secured or submitted at the table, are:
  • Temporary Parking Passes -  for those taking EDUC 3238 FAO at Simcoe Hall
  • Locker Rentals/ Purchases - all interested students
  • PRC/VSS documentation submission
