Two Important Upcoming Orillia Events
Posting on behalf of Alex Thomson.
Hi Folks!
I wanted to tell you about two events happening in Orillia shortly. The first is being organized by faculty and volunteers in the Education department. The second is being organized by many organizations, including Jeff Clark.
The first one is Thursday, September 27th 2:45-4:00 at the tipi/garden on the main campus. You are encouraged to wear an orange shirt that day...
This week is Residential School Awareness Week and Orange Shirt Day hosted by the Aboriginal Education classes and Office of Aboriginal Initiatives. Students are encouraged to visit one of the conversation tables located in the main hallways of both Heritage Place and Simcoe Hall. At these tables, students can engage in conversation, related literature, and write a reflective thought, feeling or meaningful word on a paper cut-out of an orange shirt at the table. Paper shirts will be displayed in the hallways leading up to the open class on Thursday where we will engage in a sharing circle and fire. The open class will take place Thursday, September 27th 2:45 pm - 4:00 pm on the lawn beside the tipi at the Simcoe Hall Campus.
And this one on Tuesday, October 2nd at 11:45 at Orillia Secondary School....
The Orillia Youth Opportunities Committee, in collaboration with the Simcoe County District School Board and Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board, invites you to attend a public forum to discuss options for addressing the issue of youth homelessness in our community.
Come and hear from experts on how other communities use shelter diversion, emergency shelters and transitional housing. What is the right path for the City of Orillia? Help us decide! Be part of the discussion and share your voice as we survey the audience during this exciting and interactive forum. Priority seating for youth!
Keynote speaker: Dr. Stephen Gaetz, Professor and Director of the Canadian Observatory on Homelessness
When: Tuesday October 2nd, 2018, starting at 11:45 a.m. (concludes at 2:00 p.m.)
Where: Orillia Secondary School (OSS), 250 Collegiate Drive, Orillia - in the cafeteria
Parking: limited spots at OSS; Emmanuel Baptist Church is a short walk away and has kindly offered their lot for this event use.
Cheers,
alex
