Google Apps for Education Workshop

Please Note - This opportunity will be limited to B.Ed students who are not writing the compulsory Math Exam on March 20th, 2018.

Good Afternoon B.Ed Students:

We are a group of English teachers from Sir William Mulock SS of York Region District School Board who are working with a Ministry grant (Provincial Knowledge Exchange - PKE) to provide PD related to the use of Google Apps for Education.

For the last eight years Sir William Mulock has been at the leading edge of developing blended learning classrooms with a focus on authentic technology enhanced instruction and practice. As part of our PKE project we would like to launch a PD opportunity for teacher candidates that we think will help further prepare them for their practicums and give them a head start when it comes to navigating the technology focused pedagogy that is happening at the elementary and high school level.

What we are offering is a daylong workshop session (9:00am-2:30pm)  on Google Apps for Education (lunch provided -vegetarian options will be available), giving the teacher candidates the basics of Google Apps with relevant, real world applications to teaching practice. We've been doing a similar presentation/workshop for teachers for a number of years with great success.

What: Introduction to Google Apps for Education
When: March 20th 9am-2:30pm
Where: Sir William Mulock SS (705 Columbus Way, Newmarket Ontario - Library)

If you are interested in participating, please fill out this Google form a.s.a.p. Please note that we can take 20 participants for the first offering with the possibility of more later in the semester.

Thank you!

Invitation: brief survey on climate change teaching, Canada and Greenland

Dear Potential Participant,

We invite you to take part in research we are conducting called Teacher Education Students' Ideas on Climate Change Education. Participation involves spending about 10 minutes answering 18 questions on an online survey (link at bottom).

This research will help us understand whether teacher education students in Canada and Greenland feel prepared to teach about climate change in order to make recommendations for program improvement.

Participation is voluntary and anonymous. Drs. Berger and Poort will not know the identity of those who participate. There is no risk of harm, or personal benefit, from taking part, though helping improve climate change education may make a small contribution to fighting climate change. Only Dr. Berger and Dr. Poort will have access to the raw data. Data will be safety stored for five years in a password protected computer in Dr. Berger’s office at Lakehead University. Findings will be shared through presentations, journal articles and reports.

If you have questions about the research or would like a summary of the research results, please contact us (Paul Berger: paul.berger@lakeheadu.ca, 001-807-343-8708 / Lars Poort: lap@uni.gl299 38 57 12).

This research has been approved by the Lakehead Research Ethics Board. They may be contacted with questions or concerns about the research (research@lakeheadu.ca   tel: 001-807-343-8283).

Completion of the survey is taken as your consent to participate. Once you click submit, your answers cannot be withdrawn.  Thank you for considering taking part.

Regards,
Paul & Lars

Interested In Having Professional Photos Taken?

**Forwarding on behalf of the ESTAO Team**
Hello!
The Education Student Teachers Association of Orillia is planning to organize a Professional Headshots Photo Session event in the near future. For $15, you will receive two photos that you can use for various professional profiles.
We ask that you complete the following survey to indicate your interest, as well as the time that would work best for you.
Thank you,
The ESTAO Team

IMPORTANT - Entering YEAR 2 (Fall 2018) - Consecutive B.Ed Professional Program Placement Preferences, Cohort Assignments & Carpooling Requests

Good Day All YEAR 1 B.Ed Professional Program Students,

In anticipation of the 2018-2019 academic session, we would like all Consecutive B.Ed students who plan to enter Year 2 (your final year of our program) in Fall 2018, to complete their 2nd Year Placement Preference Form before March 14, 2018.
Entering Your Personal Information in the Online Placement Preference Application Form:
We would also ask that you have all of your personal information readily available when you complete the application form.
(Birth-date, SIN, permanent address, phone number and name/number for your emergency contact)

This information must be entered accurately, as this information will be included in the data Lakehead University submits to the Ontario College of Teachers (OCT) at the end of the school year, to formally recommend you to be certified to teach in the province of Ontario.

What You Need To Know BEFORE You Complete Your YEAR 2 Preferences:
Your requests for desired school boards & areas is a contract between you and the Faculty of Education.
Changes to submitted preferences will not be entertained in 2018-2019
We ask that you make your YEAR 2 selections wisely, factoring in where you will be living or a major life event you know will be occurring in the next year, that may influence your choice in board or area.

Should you have questions about what you want to choose, feel free to contact Catherine Hannon (channon@lakeheadu.ca) or Julie Howell (jhowell@lakeheadu.ca) to discuss.

How To Access The Online Placement Preference Application Form:

We cannot stress it enough.... take your time and read the placement preference form very carefully.

All 2 Year Consecutive  B.Ed Students (entering Year 2 in Fall 2018) can access the Online Placement Preference Application Form by clicking here:

You must be logged into your LU email to gain access.

REMEMBER:
YOU ONLY GET ONE CHANCE TO VIEW THE ONLINE PLACEMENT APPLICATION FORM - SO DO NOT ACCESS IT UNTIL YOU ARE READY TO MAKE YOUR SELECTION.
IF YOU ATTEMPT TO ACCESS IT, TO SEE WHAT INFORMATION MAY BE REQUIRED OF YOU - YOU WILL NOT BE GRANTED ACCESS TO THE FORM AGAIN.

We would ask that each of you are careful to update any new information about schools where you completed your YEAR 1 placements as these schools are now conflicts of interest, heading into Year 2 of the program.

Appreciating that your immediate focus is on successful completion of your 2017-2018 academic courses and a second placement, we would ask that each of you are sure to frequently check your Lakehead email account regularly over the upcoming spring and summer months.

All important communications will be sent to your LU email inbox, and not to personal email accounts.   Many times we need to relay or ask for important information regarding your school board choice, during our placement preparations.

Carpooling Requests, Cohorts & Course Registration (June/July 2018)
Much like this past summer, you will receive communication of your specific class schedule assignment right before B.Ed course registration opens in June /July 2018.
You will use that communication's course assignment checklist and its specific instructions, to register for your assigned course sections, when you receive the email from Julie Howell.

Your Cohort Assignment In YEAR 2 Will Change:
As recently decided and communicated in the Year 1 Cohort Representatives meeting, cohort assignments for YEAR 1 students heading into YEAR 2 in Fall 2018, will be shuffled among the 2018-2019 established cohort groups. For those interested in submitting a request to be assigned to the same cohort/class schedule for the express purpose of carpooling during the 2017-2018 academic year, you will be able to do so, once the formal communication to submit these requests is circulated via LU email, in the spring.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation and patience as we continue to finalize our program planning for 2018-2019.
