This is a follow-up to the email from the Dean regarding the new Provincial Mathematics Exam that is under development at EQAO:
For those who feel they need additional help to prepare for this exam, we will be scheduling sections (as needed) of EDUC 3517 in the winter term. This is a supplement, not a susbtitute for any of your required courses. It will require some "homework" because Math is not a subject you can develop in without regular practice, but the course will be Pass/Fail (or just Audited). Our understanding is that there is no additional cost required.
From the University Calendar: EDUC 3517 Teaching Intermediate Mathematics provides an in-depth background in the research-based development of pedagogical content knowledge for intermediate level (with an emphasis on Grades 7-8) Mathematics teaching, including knowledge and application of appropriate models, manipulatives, alternate methods, and reasoning.
This is a math-rich course. One of our Math leads in Thunder Bay, Dr. Ann Kajander, will adapt the content of the course as we learn more about the content of the EQAO exam that is being developed. She will, for example, include appropriate material to reflect the Gr. 11 content that will be on the exam.
Interested in Taking EDUC 3517 in the Winter Term
Anyone who wishes additional preparation for the exam is asked to complete the survey included in this email. Once we have a better sense of overall student interest, we will do our best to make the scheduling of this class (or classes) fit your timetable for the winter term.

At present, we are just gauging interest in this course. We are doing what we can under the circumstances to support our students in preparing for this unanticipated, external exam.
As the details for EDUC 3517 are finalized, we will share them with you. If you have any further questions, ask your cohort rep to bring them to the first cohort rep meeting on Wednesday, September 18, 2019.
