Games/Gaming And Technology GO Conference - Volunteers Needed

Hi Everyone!

This year the GO Conference will be on Friday May 5, 2017, and the theme is Games/Gaming and Technology. It is an amazing opportunity for all teacher candidates. Not only does it allow you to plan an interactive learning session geared towards Grade 4 to 8 gifted students within Simcoe County, but it allows you to work in collaboration with SCDSB staff to plan the conference itself! This allows you to gain valuable skills, knowledge and training that can be applied when working with gifted students and is a great asset to have on any resume. The GO conference is not only a fun day, but it is a highly enriching process for all involved. Participants will also receive a Co-Curricular Record credit!

Check out this amazing video highlighting a previous conference: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B5NYBXs8YFYzUXpzSFdOQ2V0RTg/view?usp=sharing

The GO Conference will require students to participate in information and training sessions prior to the event.  The first training session will be on Wednesday February 8, 2017, from 4:30-6:30pm in OH4 at Heritage Place.

If you have had a successful practicum and are interested in working with your peers to create a workshop for this conference, please consider signing up.  If you have not already done so, you can sign up by contacting Elizabeth Thomas (sethoma1@lakeheadu.ca) or Rosa Fabiano (rfabiano@lakeheadu.ca).

HELP PLEASE: Our final math night for this year!!

~Forwarding on behalf of Dr. Ruth Beatty~

Hi Everyone,

I'm sending this out to see if anyone is free to help out with our very last Math Night at Guthrie Public School on Tuesday February 28 from 5:00 - 7:00.

The school has heavily promoted the evening, so there will be lots of children attending with their parents.

If you participated in Math Nights last year please consider coming out for this last Math Night evening - you can use the game you developed last year.

If you haven't participated in any Math Nights I have games for you to play with the children.

The Math Nights are an important way for us to build relationships with our local schools, and also allow you to experience a way of supporting parents and children that you can take with you to your placement schools, and throughout your career. And if you are hoping to apply to the SCDSB upon graduation, this certificate would be a wonderful addition to your portfolio.

Please let me (rbeatty@lakeheadu.ca) know ASAP if you are able to attend.

Many thanks!
