Kindergarten Workshop - Monday November 6, 2017

Forwarding on behalf of Catherine Hannon

On Monday, November 6th from 5- 7:30  p.m. there will be a Kindergarten workshop for candidates from any of the three programs. The focus will be on planning, instruction and assessment while out on a Kindergarten placement, but any candidates are welcome to attend, regardless of their particular placement grade. A Kindergarten teacher from the Simcoe County DSB will join us to talk about how she plans and observes students to promote student learning and engagement. We will review the Kindergarten templates, and share Kindergarten resources that can support your work while out on placement.

Please sign up for this session in the Education Office by Friday, November 3 at 4:30 p.m.

The room location for this workshop is OH10.

Thank you.

Weekly Video Message - October 27, 2017

Hello everyone. In this week's video, Lauren and Luke are on location at the Orillia Public Library. Here's the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GOwVVRB7E1g

We've been talking about the Gifted Outreach Conference in May. In response to questions about this year's theme, I'm please to announce that because the conference occurs on the 4th of May, the theme is "May the 4th be with you!" In other words, it's a Star Wars Theme. Stay tuned for sign-up information.

Don't forget to dress up on Tuesday for Hallowe'en!

And if you have time, please join us on Saturday (tomorrow) from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm for the Heritage Place Haunt.

Have a great weekend,

Frances

Weekly Video Message - October 22, 2017

Hello everyone. Luke and Lauren have information about some upcoming events, including the Coaching workshop, which has been very well received by teacher candidates in past years. There's also an announcement about this year's Gifted Outreach Conference, a chance for Lakehead teacher candidates to present a day of workshops to hundreds of Simcoe County children, in collaboration with SCDSB staff and Lakehead instructors.
If you have children, you might want to join us on Saturday, October 28th between 10:30 and 12:30 for the Heritage Place Haunt, featuring a haunted house in room 8, and crafts in room 10. This event is part of Lakehead Orillia's Homecoming weekend.

Don't forget to wear purple on Tuesday, to recognize that it takes a community to protect children's rights.

Have a great week,

Frances

On Dress Purple Day we acknowledge that it takes a village to keep kids safe. Everybody in the community plays a role in supporting children’s rights.

In 2017, Children’s Aid Societies will be working collaboratively during Child Abuse Prevention Month and Dress Purple Day with Boards of Education, a key partner in supporting the safety and well-being of children and youth.

Chair's Office Drop in hours

Hello everyone.

Tomorrow, October 17th, is the third Tuesday of the month, and that means it's doors open in the afternoon between 2:30 and 4:30 pm. This time is meant in particular to provide racialized, indigenous and LGBT students the opportunity to meet with me to share any concerns you may have. Your voice is very important to me, and I want to ensure that you have the space to be heard.

Please feel free to join me on the third Tuesday of every month (except when you're on practicum or on holiday!) at any time between 2:30 and 4:30pm.
