Invitation to a webinar - New elementary math curriculum

Recently the Ministry of Education has launched Ontario’s new math curriculum for Grades 1-8. The math curriculum is part of province new four-year math strategy that will ensure that students are prepared for success in the classroom and in their future, that teachers are confident and capable in teaching math, and that parents and families can support their kids.

The ministry is pleased to extend the invitation to a webinar to support the implementation of the new elementary math curriculum to Teacher Candidates. This webinar will provide an overview of the new elementary math curriculum (grades 1-8), including key changes in each curriculum stand and highlight available teaching supports.

We believe Teacher Candidates will find these learning opportunities useful as they prepare for their practicum and for the Math Proficiency Test.

This webinar is repeated several times.

Teacher Candidates are invited to register for one date and time that works best with their schedule.
  • Friday, August 28, 2020 10:00 - 11:00 am
  • Monday, August 31, 2020 1:00 - 2:00 pm

Securing Your Ministry of Education Curriculum Documents for Fall 2020 ( Year 1 of B.Ed Professional Program)

A number of your required Education classes in our B.Ed Professional Program requires you to have a copy of the Ministry of Education’s standardized Elementary Curriculum Documents, which will serve as textbooks for a number of your courses.

You can download or print each of the curriculum documents here: http://www.edu.gov.on.ca/eng/curriculum/elementary/subjects.html

You will also need:

· Special Education in Ontario (k-12) -  http://edu.gov.on.ca/eng/document/policy/os/onschools_2017e.pdf

· Growing Success  -  http://www.edu.gov.on.ca/eng/policyfunding/growSuccess.pdf

·  Learning For All  -  http://edu.gov.on.ca/eng/general/elemsec/speced/LearningforAll2013.pdf

·  Kindergarten Addendum  -  http://www.edu.gov.on.ca/eng/policyfunding/GSKindergartenAddendum2018.pdf

If referring to these PDF documents from a PC or laptop doesn't work well for you, you may wish to download these curriculum documents to a USB stick and take them into a local print shop to arrange to print them and have them bound as books, that you can use throughout the year.

These are documents crucial to some of your core courses while completing your B.Ed degree, so it is strongly recommended that you arrange to secure them anytime now, or throughout the balance of the summer - to ensure you are prepared for the first week of classes.

You will find these documents to be an invaluable resource during the program, and as additions to your own Education Resource "Library".
