Release of Placements - Winter Term - March 2015 - Please Read Carefully

Good Morning B.Ed Students,

This is to notify all B.Ed students that the Education Administration Team will release our confirmed placement details (to date) on Thursday March 5th, 2015.

All students will receive an official email communication once we have gone "live" with the release of the confirmed placement details. That email will provide you with specific instructions toverify your placement details BOTH online via the Education Portal, and in person with the Education Administration Team, before attempting to contact your Associate Teacher.

On March 5th, 2015 - We will have a table set up in the Student Commons in Heritage Place, where ALL B.Ed students will be asked to verify in person, the details they see when they log into the Education Portal, for their Winter Placement assignment.

In-Person Verification - in Student Commons:Thursday March 5, 2015, 2015
  • 9:30 - 12:30
  • 2:00 - 4:30
Other Important Information As March 5th, 2015 Approaches:
  • Not all students will have confirmed placements when we release March 5th, 2015
  • We continue to work closely with all partner school boards (daily), to secure our remaining placement need
  • We encourage students to regularly monitor their LU email AND the Education Portal, for any updates or changes to their placement details
Once you have confirmed your placement details BOTH online and in-person, it is imperative that you are contacting your Associate Teacher, to verify:
  • Correct Spelling of Name
  • Correct Grade (at this point in year, we must verify you have completed 1 PRI and 1 JR placement, to satisfy this program requirement)
  • Correct School Board Email Address
  • Receipt of Email Resource Package from Lakehead
Thank you for your continued patience,

Math Brush Up Sessions - March 2015 - Please Read

Good Day B.Ed Students,

The Faculty of Education here at the Orillia campus, have planned "brush up" sessions that will take place before the compulsory Math Competency Exam on Thursday March 19th, 2015.

IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT THESE SESSIONS:

·    These sessions are ONLY for students who have been working on their math content knowledge. These sessions are designed to give those students who have been working on their math knowledge a chance to practice problem solving prior to the exam.
·    These are not workshops designed to TEACH you math.
·     It is not possible for us to teach all the relevant math you will need for the exam in one or two sessions (and you will find these sessions more confusing than helpful).
·    However, if you have been working on your math, or feel confident about your math understanding, these sessions will provide you with an opportunity for some extra practice.

If you have a specific type of math question, please bring it with you.
The workshop facilitator will do their best to address it.

When Are The "Brush Up" Sessions?:
·         Tuesday March 3rd, 2015 - 5-7pm  in OH7 and OH10
·         Wednesday, March 4th, 2015 - 5-7pm  in OH8
·         Tuesday March 10th, 2015 - 5-7pm  in OH7 and OH10
·         Wednesday March 11th, 2015 -  5-7pm  in OH8

How Do I Sign Up?
We would ask that any B.Ed student wishing to attend either session, visit the Education Administration Office to sign up.

These sign up sheets will be available in the Education Administration Office as of: Wednesday Feb 25, 2015.
There is limited space in the planned sessions, so students are encouraged sign up soon.

REMINDER: ETFO Workshop - Friday February 27th, 2015 - "Think Before You Click"

The Faculty of Education has partnered with the Elementary Teacher's Federation of Ontario, to offer you this important and relevant workshop on January 23rd, 2015.

Although it is not mandatory to attend, you will find that its topic is one of growing importance in Ontario classrooms.

Workshop Description:
Experience in the Professional Relations and Services Department at ETFO has confirmed that many instances of teachers facing false allegations of physical or sexual misconduct or investigations by the employer are often the result of questionable judgment and practices related to professional boundaries.

This workshop focuses on maintaining appropriate professional boundaries and implementing best practice to minimize the risk of a teacher becoming the victim of false allegations or disciplinary action.
Video clips, day to day school scenarios and relevant legislation including the role of the College of Teachers are incorporated into this workshop to encourage all participants to consistently use best practices and maintain exemplary professionalism at all times.
Because of space constraints, we have planned 2 sessions on each date.

Cohorts have been assigned to a specific time-slot to attend these available workshops, based on availability in class schedules.

The ETFO Workshop details & Assigned Presentation Schedule for each Cohort, are as follows:
        Friday February 27th, 2015
Workshop: Think Before You Click – Professional Boundaries

           Session Times & Cohort Assignment:
·         10:30 – 12:30  - for Cohorts: B, F, G and H
·         12:30 – 2:30 - for Cohorts: A, C, D and E
