Teach For Canada - Applications Now Open!

Applications for teaching in northern Ontario and Manitoba First Nations are now open!

Teach For Canada is looking for exceptional teachers to help make education more equal in the North. We work with First Nations education leaders, principals, teachers, and many others to recruit and select teachers who have the motivation, aptitude, and fit to be successful in a northern First Nation.  Once selected, we provide two weeks of community-focused summer preparation and provide ongoing support during a teacher’s minimum two-year teaching commitment in the North. Inspired by the leadership of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Calls to Action on Education, Teach For Canada teachers emphasize a spirit of reciprocal learning in the classroom and community.

We currently partner with 20 First Nations communities. If you are interested in learning more about the communities we partner with, you can read their profiles here. You can also join Teach For Canada for our virtual events to learn more about living and teaching in the North.

If you are interested in starting an application, you can apply here.

Provincial Math Proficiency Test (MPT) - Updated Website

The Ministry of Education has recently revised its website for the Provincial Math Proficiency Test (MPT) that contains a practice test and other resources that students who are preparing for one of their sittings, can use.

This is the same website you would visit to book a seat in one of the upcoming sittings for the exam, to fulfill this additional requirement for certification to teach in Ontario, with the Ontario College of Teachers.

REMINDER: Required Documents for Placement (PRC/VSS and H&S Training)

This reminder is for both students who have confirmed placements & those who are still waiting for their placement details - and are missing required documentation for your Fall placement.  Please read carefully.

These documents are required for placement and may prevent you from proceeding to your placement, if not received before Nov 11, 2020

If you have been assigned to a different board other than what you had originally requested, please complete the training requirements for the newly assigned school board.
IMPORTANT: The Health & Safety training can wait until you are assigned to a school board however, you will not be able to start your placement without providing proof of its completion to the Faculty of Education.

Please carefully review and follow the instructions for your VSS submission and  Health & Safety training/additional requirements according to the Board Specific Instructions Health & Safety Training, VSS and TB Skin Test Requirements . Some boards have updated their requirements to include additional COVID-19 training/forms.   Many boards include the Health and Safety Awareness Training within their required training. Submission of the board-specific Worker Health and Safety Awareness training is also acceptable.

It is your responsibility to understand what documentation & training your school board requires of you.  We ask that all students keep your proof of completed H&S training in the front of your daybook.

Please submit any outstanding PRC/VSS reports and completed Worker Health and Safety Awareness Training certificate to Rosamaria Fabiano at rfabiano@lakeheadu.ca or Sarah McIsaac samcisaa@lakeheadu.ca.

As it is a very busy time for placement procurement for the department.
Due to the higher volume of emails, please expect delays in response to emails at this time.

Thank you for your continued support.
