Securing NEW PRC/VSS Documentation for your January 2019 return

This is a reminder that every B.Ed student will be required to secure NEW PRC/VSS documentation for their March/April 2019 placement.

This is an effort to ensure that all students have valid documentation for placement in the New Year, regardless of what board they are completing their winter placement in.

We have attached the generic letter to be used for any OPP or local police service location. Please print this letter and take it with you when you visit the detachment, to start the process.

Similarly, any student living in the GTA and planning to go to Toronto Police Services, please use the attached application form (must print on legal size paper).

For those of you in-line to graduate in June 2019 - this new PRC can be used in your Ontario College of Teachers certification application profile.

REMEMBER: It is your responsibility to understand what your specific school board requires, with respect to PRC/VSS documentation submission etc.  Please see the original email from Laura Morgan, Placement Officer,
dated December 18, 2018.

Thank you and see you in the new year!

The Importance of an APPLY TO EDUCATION Profile - Task Over The Christmas Holiday Break

Good Afternoon B.Ed Students Hoping To Graduate in June 2018,

Have you heard of www.applytoeducation.com?

This website and the profile you create on it, will serve to be an indispensable tool, in your search for Teaching Opportunities in Canada.
215 Canadian School Boards & 299 Private Employers use "apply to education" to post their jobs and receive applications online.
Since 1998, ApplyToEducation has helped applicants apply to over 5,500 schools in 49 countries.
ApplyToEducation software simplifies how you manage your employment applications throughout your career in Education.
One application portfolio in your personal cloud, gives you the ability to easily apply to:
  • Employers
  • Job postings
  • Daily assignments
  • Long-term openings (i.e. maternity leaves)
  • Permanent openings
  • Share your portfolio electronically with employers you’re interested in applying to.

Apply to education is the best way to send your application portfolio to employers for the following reasons:

YOU SAVE TIME APPLYING:

  • You fill out ONE application and use it for every job you apply to.
  • You can customize your cover letter for each job you apply to.
  • You can update your application portfolio as often as you like.
  • Employers always see the latest version of your application portfolio

YOU SAVE MONEY SENDING YOUR APPLICATION:
  • Save time and the costs associated with photocopying, mailing, faxing and updating your application throughout your career.
  • applytoeducation is less expensive than paying for multiple transcripts, photocopies, mailing or faxing an application portfolio.
  • use applytoeducation to e-courier your application portfolio to unlimited jobs with one school board and private employers

YOU RECEIVE EMAILS ALERTING YOU TO JOBS YOU ARE INTERESTED IN:
  • Search education jobs and set up a 'Job Alert' so you are emailed when jobs you are interested in are posted.
  • School Board job postings can be viewed at any time free of charge.
  • applytoeducation not only saves you time — it saves you money.

We encourage all of you to review the benefits of the creation of a profile on this website, over the Holiday Break.

SafeTALK Workshop

SafeTALK is a well-recognized alertness training program that prepares anyone 15 or older, regardless of prior experience or training, to become a suicide-alert helper. Most people with thoughts of suicide don’t truly want to die, but are struggling with the pain in their lives. Through their words and actions, they invite help to stay alive. safeTALK-trained helpers can recognize these invitations and take action by connecting them with life-saving intervention resources, such as caregivers trained in ASIST.

Since its development in 2006, safeTALK has been used in over 20 countries around the world, and more than 200 selectable video vignettes have been produced to tailor the program’s audio-visual component for diverse audiences. safeTALK-trained helpers are an important part of suicide-safer communities, working alongside intervention resources to identify and avert suicide risks.

This workshop is limited to the first 30 participants registered.  The fee includes a participant pack with various resources, as well as a certificate of completion for the course.

We ask that each of you complete the necessary steps to create an Online Certification Applicant Profile, via the Ontario College of Teacher`s website. (https://www.oct.ca/)

Teach In are offering an opportunity to teach in London with flights paid!

Invitation to our M.Ed. class project

Dream Big with us!

The students in EDUC-5414 School Improvement Planning want to redesign the Faculty of Education learning spaces at Lakehead University. By 'redesign' we mean imagine changes to the structure and function of the learning spaces, with the intention of improving them.

Here are our course mission, vision, and values:
  • Mission
    • To design multi-faceted spaces for the educational community that reflects inspired and inclusive learning, creative and innovative teaching, environmental and sustainable initiatives, and diverse experiences.
  • Vision
    • To create an environment that allows for relationship-building, transformative experiences, endless opportunities for learning, and the fearless pursuit of realizing our goals.
  • Values
    • We believe that the foundation of a unique, transformative, and unconventional learning experience is rooted in respect, support, connection to nature, collaboration and individual journeys. These are the values we believe are the cornerstone of lifelong learning.

We ask you to Dream Big with us and contribute ideas to the redesign of the Faculty of Education learning spaces. Your voice and opinion are important.

The survey is very short, open, and anonymous. It is not confidential, per se, because we are sharing your ideas with anyone who is interested. The Office of Research was consulted and the survey meets the University's ethical standards related to the collection of information for the purposes of program improvement.

Please take 10 minutes to share your ideas with us. Click here,

Then what happens? Students in the EDUC-5414 School Improvement Planning will plan a redesign of the Faculty of Education learning spaces based on your ideas, as well as other research. The culminating task for the course will be drawings and some text/rationale for design decisions. We will share our results with the Chairs, Dean, and Education Librarian who agreed to consider ideas for improvement. We will also seek to share our results with you via email if you wish. Finally, we will present our proposal for a redesign in a presentation open to everyone who is interested.

With sincere thanks from,

John-Paul Chalykoff,
