QECO and OCT Application Clarification

Good Afternoon Everyone,

A few of you have asked for clarification about the application process and timeline for both the Ontario College of Teachers (OCT) and the Qualification Evaluation Council of Ontario (QECO).

STEP #1
Create your online OCT application profile

• Obtain your Pending OCT #
• Arrange to submit any outstanding OCT application checklist items to make your application complete

1) Your identity documents - your responsibility2) Your proof of practice teaching (placement assessments)  - your responsibility3) A police record check  - your responsibility4) Your final transcripts (1 for your undergraduate degree and 1 for your B.Ed degree)  - your responsibility5) Report from Faculty - this is submitted on your behalf by a Lakehead designate, at the end of May/early June and December each year

Once these things are taken care of, you can move on to STEP# 2.

Submit your application for QECO evaluation

LEGACY 1 YR B.Ed STUDENTS - IMPORTANT - Providing Your Pending OCT Number To The Faculty of Education By May 25th, 2016

Attention all Legacy 1 Year B.Ed Students Hoping to Graduate This Spring:

As you approach the end of your B.Ed degree journey, there are a number of tasks you will have to complete to become recognized as a Certified Teacher in Ontario, by the Ontario College of Teachers (OCT).

As indicated in an email communication dated January 26th, 2016, each one of you have been asked to complete the necessary steps to create an Online Certification Applicant Profile, via the Ontario College of Teacher`s website. (https://www.oct.ca/)

Starting your Online Certification Applicant Profile should be started in as soon as possible.

We have a planned campus visit for representatives from the Ontario College of Teachers to come and speak to you, about what is involved in the application process, timelines and other responsibilities that are yours, once you are in line to graduate.
THE DATE FOR THIS PLANNED VISIT IS: February 24th, 2016 from 5:00 - 6:30pm

IF THE FACULTY OF EDUCATION DOES NOT RECEIVE YOUR SUBMISSION OF THE INFORMATION REQUESTED IN THIS SURVEY, YOU WILL NOT BE FORMALLY RECOMMENDED FOR CERTIFICATION TO TEACH IN ONTARIO TO THE ONTARIO COLLEGE OF TEACHERS, & THERE MAY BE DELAYS IN THE HANDLING OF YOUR APPLICATION, OR CHANGES TO THE REQUIREMENTS THAT NEED TO BE SATISFIED, TO HAVE YOUR CERTIFICATION APPLICATION CONSIDERED.

In order for us to be able to formally recommend you to OCT, we need each of you to answer a few questions on this form.
