Winter Study Break Extended and Services Returning

In the wake of this week’s cybersecurity event and infrastructure disruptions, Lakehead University’s Winter Study Week will be extended for an additional four days. All classes will resume on Friday, February 26, 2021.

We are also pleased to announce that essential communication and instructional services, including the University’s website, Gmail, Zoom, myInfo portal, and D2L platform were restored earlier today. As our Technology Services Centre continues to bring more services back up, users may experience slowed or interrupted services.

Further decisions related to the University’s academic calendar will be forthcoming pending discussions with Faculties and Senate.

As more information becomes available, updates will continue to be provided via email, on Twitter (@LakeheadUNews and @LakeheadOrillia), and on the Lakehead Mobile Safety app. You can download the app from your device's applications store.  A Q+A document has also been posted to the Lakehead Mobile Safety app.

Provincial "March Break" Move & Winter Term 2021 Placement Blocks

With the recent provincial announcement to postpone the March Break until the week of April 12th 2021, the Faculty of Education thought it important to advise our 2 Year B.Ed Program students that our upcoming Winter term placement blocks will not be interrupted by this change.

Winter term 2021 Placement Blocks will still be as follows:
  • Year 1 students  - Mar 22 - April 30th, 2021
  • Year 2 students  - Mar 22 - April 27th, 2021
Further details about requirements/expectations of the Winter 2021 placement will be circulated by your Faculty Advisors in the near future.

A Note on Placement Confirmation

You received a communication in December about our updated student placement procedures for this term. As per those communications, we are confirming student placements via email for the Winter 2021 semester and will be uploading the details for placements to the student portal as of the beginning of March, 2021.

You will be receiving a message from the  Placement Team confirming your individual placement, but we would like to remind you that this is a lengthy process. We ask for your patience as it may take some time for us to be in contact with you regarding your place. As you might already understand, we are attempting to address the important task of placing students according to a priority list as well as information such as geography, available spots and other pertinent information, which understandably is a big task involving many moving parts.

We understand that this is a difficult time and would like to assure all students that we are working tirelessly to place as many students as possible.

We thank you again for your continued patience and understanding in these unusual times and will be in touch as soon it is possible to do so.
