Education Program Scholarships and Awards – Year End

 Graduating This Spring?
A few more awards you might feel you are eligible for:

Ontario Secondary School Teachers' Federation Award 
In 2015 – 2016, the only graduating teacher candidates in the province will be those from concurrent programs because all of the rest of the teacher candidates will be in the first year of the newly expanded four term pre-service program. As such for this year, the OSSTF/FEESO Faculty of Education Award, valued at $1,000, shall be awarded to three graduating Intermediate/Senior or Technological Education Teacher Candidates from an English-language publicly-assisted Ontario faculty of education who apply for the award and who in the opinion of the OSSTF/FEESO Provincial Executive have shown a clear understanding and empathy for the values of unionism, are attempting to secure a job with a public secondary board, and best exemplify the criteria for the award. Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario Award   
The Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario (ETFO) will annually award $500, to the graduating Primary / Junior or Junior / Intermediate candidate in the Faculty of Education. Awarded on the basis of: academic excellence; exemplary teaching practices; demonstrates initiative to broaden personal experience in educational culture; and demonstrates commitment to social justice. The candidate is recommended by both the practicum supervisor and an associate teacher to the Lakehead University Faculty of Education Awards Committee. The recommended candidate must not have received other funding from the ETFO Requirements: 
1) Indicate the high school in Northwestern Ontario you graduated from; 
2) A summary of your leadership and roles undertaken, interests and volunteerism in the community. 
3) Associate Teacher's (supervising teacher) recommendation (Due March 31, 2016) is: ___  Attached. OR ___Will be forwarded by Supervisor. 
4) Nomination from Faculty member (email or note declaring this)

Linda Strey Memorial Education Scholarship
$1,000 (A-LSMSI)Awarded to a full-time student registered in the Professional year of the Bachelor of Education program (includes one-year BEd students and students in the final year of the concurrent program) who achieved an 80% in the last year of full-time studies. The student must have graduated from a high school in Northwestern Ontario and have demonstrated volunteerism in the community. A letter of recommendation is required from the Associate Teacher (supervising teacher) from the fall term, that recognized the applicant has having demonstrated extraordinary passion for Education and exceptional engagement with students and the learning process.                                                                                            April 15 Deadline     https://www.lakeheadu.ca/current-students/scholarships-awards-loans/undergraduate-students/in-course-scholarships-and-awards
