The Ontario College of Teachers cordially invites all candidates in an Ontario consecutive or concurrent teacher education program to join us for a free webinar:

How to maintain professional boundaries in and out of the classroom

Thursday, April 29 from 5:30 – 6:30 p.m.

Click here to register for this free webinar open to Ontario Certified Teachers (OCTs), teacher candidates, parents, members of the public, and other education stakeholders. Please share this invitation with all of your students.

AGENDA

Participants will be provided with an overview of the College’s professional advisory on boundaries, which was developed in consultation with our education partners and leading experts in this field. The webinar will also feature a panel discussion where experts will share their knowledge and answer questions to help clarify the professional, ethical, and legal parameters that govern teachers’ practice.

  • Introduction: Chantal Bélisle, OCT, Deputy Registrar, Ontario College of Teachers
  • Overview: Dr. Derek Haime, OCT, Registrar and CEO, Ontario College of Teachers
  • Panel discussion:
    • Noni Classen, Director of Education, Canadian Centre for Child Protection
    • Linda Lacroix, OCT, Director of Investigations and Hearings, Ontario College of Teachers
    • Laina Andrews, OCT, Superintendent of Education, Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board
  • Question and answer session.

As part of its mandate, the College issues professional advisories to provide advice and guidance to our members on current and emerging issues. Issues of establishing professional boundaries are complex. The professional advisory on boundaries clarifies OCTs’ professional responsibilities to conduct themselves in accordance with professional standards, legislation, and the law.

We look forward to this opportunity to share the College’s official advice to members and to facilitate a panel discussion on the importance of educators upholding professional boundaries with students in and out of the classroom.

Sincerely,

Chantal Bélisle, OCT

Deputy Registrar
