Library Services While on Placement

~Message from the Education Library~

As you begin your placement,  here are some further notes about accessing resources via the Orillia Education Library - both online and in-person.

Contacting Us!

If you need assistance with anything, contact the Orillia Education Library at orlib@lakeheadu.ca or 705 330 4010 x2252. We can even set up a Zoom appointment if that is helpful for you.

Visiting the Orillia Ed Library in person!

The Orillia Education library, at 1 Colborne Street West in downtown Orillia, will be open for you to come to borrow print materials from us.

Opening hours during placement are:

Wednesdays 4:00pm to 7:00pm

Sundays  12:00pm to 4:00pm

On Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays we are available to open the library by appointment! Please contact us if you would like to visit the library on one of those days.

Ebook versions of many books on teaching and lesson planning are available through Omni.  You can search for a book by title, author or subject and then limit your search to “Books and Ebooks” and then apply the “Available Online” filter as pictured below.  Click on the title to access all available versions (print and/or online).  When you click on a full text link for a title, you will be prompted to enter your Lakehead username and password.

Scan and Delivery of book excerpts and journal articles may be possible while you are on your placement.  As pictured below, you can find the book or journal article in Omni, click "Sign In" to log in with your Lakehead username and password, then click on "Request Scanned Excerpt",  and fill in the blanks on the form.   As long as your scan request is within our copyright guidelines, you will receive a scanned copy by email of the excerpt you are requesting.  If you have trouble locating an item in Omni, please contact us by email at orlib@lakeheadu.ca

Library Guides are available on many Education-related topics and are available on the Education Libraries website.   Go to the K-12 Education Resources box to find these popular guides:

Children/YA Book Lists

P/J Teaching Resources (click on the link for a list of subjects)
I/S Teaching Resources (click on the link for a list of subjects)

Access to Online K-12 Lesson Planning & EBook Databases is available from the Education Libraries website:

Ebook Collections offers a selection of online children’s books and nonfiction titles
Lesson Planning Databases offers a selection of databases with full-text resources for creating your lesson plans.

Please note:  Some databases such as OERB require a unique username and password that is not your Lakehead University username and password.  The Education Passwords course site on myCourseLink provides information for current Faculty of Education students on how OERB and other similar databases. If you do not have access to this site please contact the Orillia Education Library: orlib@lakeheadu.ca or 705 330 4010 x2252
