Media Release: Lakehead University lecture explores the pedagogies of digital learning

The 21st century digital classroom will be front and centre as Lakehead University’s Research Centre for Sustainable Communities (RCSC) opens its 2022/2023 Speaker Series on Tuesday, Oct. 11.

 

Visiting scholars, Dr. Sara Osuna Acedo from the Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia (UNED) and Dr. Carmen Marta Lazo from the Universidad de Zaragoza in Spain, will focus on creativity, methodology, and participatory cultures in the ICT-R (Information and Communication Technology - Read, Write and Relate) era in their talk, “The 3rd R of ICT: Read, Write and Relate: Digital competencies, digital learning and digital citizenship”.

 

Acedo, a professor of communication and education and director of the Paulo Freire Chair in Educommunication, and Lazo, a professor of journalism and the director of the Digital Communication and Information Research Group, will discuss their experiences with massive open online course (MOOC) design and implementation including their involvement with the European ECO Learning portal.

Lakehead University established the Research Centre for Sustainable Communities in 2014 to focus on interdisciplinary research that supports sustainable communities. The centre’s unconventional approach to research, with an emphasis on multi-disciplines and collaboration, will be a catalyst for research funding and community partnerships.
