Family Math Nights - An Amazing Opportunity!

~Sending on behalf of Dr. Ruth Beatty~

Hello Everyone!

I have very exciting news! This term we will once again be partnering with the SCDSB to design and run Family (Math) Games Nights in local schools. These will be evening workshops to which parents and their children will come to participate in math games and learn about fun ways to practice math concepts at home. I am attaching a document that outlines the work we did last year.

We are looking for students to volunteer to work in teams to design and run these workshops. We will be partnering with three SCDSB resource teachers, Kit Luce, Tyler Cave, and Paulyne Casselman, who will be working with you to design the evenings.

At the end of this term, participating students will receive a certificate of recognition and a letter for their portfolio. You will also receive a co-curricular record, which will go on your transcript as evidence of leadership in education.

We have scheduled times to meet next in the next few weeks at Orillia Heritage Place.  You are invited to attend one Meeting 1 session, and one follow up Meeting 2 session.

Meeting 1 is designed to introduce Family Games Night, and the SCDSB resource teachers (if they can make it. We'll also be brainstorming activities.

[Please choose 1] Meeting 1 sessions will be held on:

  • Friday September 16 from 11:00 to 12:00 (Room OH10)
  • Friday September 16 from 1:00 to 2:00 (Room OH3)
  • Wednesday September 21 from 4:45 - 5:45 (Room OH10)

During Meeting 2, you will be testing out and critiquing each others' games, with the help of the SCDSB resource teachers.

[Please choose 1] Meeting 2 sessions will be held on:

  • Wednesday September 28 from 4:45 - 5:45 (Room OH8)
  • Friday September 30 from 11:00 - 12:00 (Room OH10)
  • Friday September 30 from 1:00 - 2:00 (Room OH3)

If you are interested in taking advantage of this incredible opportunity please sign up at the Education Office and indicate the meeting days/times that work for you.
If you have any questions don't hesitate to email me rbeatty@lakeheadu.ca.

Many thanks!
